詩人と革命家
革命家と詩人の命は短いというのは、もはや定説のような感があります。そうした意味では、萩原朔太郎は五十代後半まで生きているので、さほど短命とは言えなさそうです。
詩人の若い頃の作品が高く評価され、晩年はその逆を辿るということがあります。萩原朔太郎についても、あまり晩年での作品の評価は、必ずしも高いものではなかったようです。そうは言ってもぼくはそういう晩年の作品というヤツが、萩原朔太郎に限らずぐっときます。本来詩人が持つオブセッションに加えて、過渡期を過ぎた哀愁のようなものがどうしようもなく染みついているのがいいと思いませんか？
